EMS Wrench Tough

An EMS Tool Built Field Tough

TK1 Tactical EMS Oxygen Wrench users are as tough as the tools they use. Here is one EMT who knows a good tool when he sees it. He discovered the TK1 was one of the most durable EMS Tools in his kit.

As an EMT with more than 12 years on a bus, I couldn't even begin to imagine the number of times I've had to pry open a jammed Oxygen bottle with a shoddy plastic key that just didn't cut it. After one broken plastic Oxygen key too many, I went in search of something better and I found it. Like I said, I've been around the block in an ambulance for a while so I remember the days when all we had to work with was the clunky silver wrenches that left your hands sore. I don't have time for that pain (isn't that a song?) and so it is a good thing I found theTK1 Tactical Oxygen Wrench.

I ordered one and the day it came in I put it in my pocket without really thinking much about it; after all, every oxygen wrench I had used up to that point had turned out to be worthless and I wasn't too enthusiastic about this one either. That's when I actually came into a situation where I got to use it for the first time and I have to tell you that I was floored by how sturdy and maneuverable the TK1 is.

Designed by an EMT for EMTs

The design of the TK1 Tactical Oxygen Wrench just makes sense, at least to anyone who has actually used an O2 wrench on a regular basis for any length of time. It didn't surprise me at all to learn that it was designed by a working paramedic (Joshua Knapp from New York City). It took a fellow EMS worker to come up with a design like this; it has not one but three tank valve slots to make sure you can use it in any situation - even in really tight quarters and in oxygen tents.

The old style wrenches are mostly flat and that doesn't allow for a whole lot of leverage when you're trying to use the darned thing because you are pushing against the narrowest part of the tool instead of the flattest (and most obvious) part. That problem has been forever solved with the TK1 Tactical Oxygen Wrench. The primary wrench turning surface sits at a 90-degree angle from the rest of the tool, so you are leveraging against the most surface area when you're using it.

It makes so much sense you have to wonder why no one thought of it sooner!

Use This Tough EMS Tool and You’ll Understand

The first time I had the opportunity to use my TK1 I was immediately impressed because in addition to the wrench slots you expect, there is an extra slot that is diagonally situated. This slot, as it turns out, is perfect for turning a tight regulator thumb screw without worrying about bending the thumb screw bar. I didn't have time to wrestle with the thumb screw that day; I'm not sure what might have happened without being able to fix the problem quickly. In fact, the patient we were there to see that day even asked me about my TK1 when we were finishing up the paperwork on her call. She was as impressed by it as I was! My partner and I still laugh about that to this day.

Not only is my TK1 lightweight enough for me to carry around all the time (I keep mine on my key chain), it is so well put together that the company even offers a full lifetime replacement guarantee. Not many manufacturers think enough of their products these days to claim that they are durable enough to last a lifetime, but that's exactly what they say about the TK1 and I'm inclined to agree.

The Last Oxygen Wrench You’ll Ever Need

It used to be that I would have to replace my personal wrench every few weeks because of the bad workmanship and materials (the ones I was using were cheaply made metal, plastic or nylon), but now I replace my oxygen wrench because my coworkers have all started to borrow mine and conveniently forget to return it when they're finished. I can't complain too much though, for the price and the quality it is one of the best gifts I have come across for my coworkers and anyone else I know who works with oxygen tanks on a regular basis.
